Holidays in Cyprus - Akamas Safari

Discover the mysterious and virgin territory of Akamas- north of Paphos- Aphrodite’s birthplace-. We begin our journey in this undisturbed territory that was once the side of a major Roman city.

Old Byzantine ruins emerge from the scrub and fields of wild flowers. You will wonder at rare species of birds and the rugged beautiful landscapes. Our first stop takes us to the Avagas Gorge. We take a stroll between sheer walls of limestone rising 30 meters high. We meander through the river bed to admire the natural beauty! A short drive along the rugged coastal road leads us to the famous Lara Bay, the last remaining breeding ground of the green turtles of the whole Mediterranean. We take the opportunity here, to swim in the crystal clear waters before making our way through the famous Akamas forest, to the barbeque site. Here a traditional "Souvla" is prepared for you to enjoy with wine, music and dancing! Great fun is had by all!

Following the river upstream, we stroll to the small picturesque waterfall of this region. Our next stop is an old abounded monastery which together with the eerie silence stirs up visions of a time long past. We stop for refreshments at "Kilada". Heading towards Platres we reach the spectacular "Caledonian Falls"- the largest waterfalls on the island – named after the scented Caledonia trees, which surround them. Here for the more adventurous is the start of an optional 2km nature trail, climbing towards the Troodos plateau. Here we meet our jeeps and continue our journey to the highest peak of the island, Mount Olympus. Reaching a height of 6988 feet, we stand on the throne of ancient God-sand marvel at the panoramic views! (Do not forget your camera). Traveling through pinewoods we reach the village of Pedoulas nesting in the valley. the perfect stop for us to enjoy the traditional Cypriot meal with plenty of Cyprus wine and fruit juice for children. We continue to the famous Kykkos Byzantine Monastery. Housing the icon of The Virgin Mary painted by St. Luke, and many mosaics covered by gold leaf. We begin our descent via Milikouri village passing through different terrain of lush green valleys and sleepy villages dotted on the hillsides.
